ANNUAL LEAVE AND PUBLIC HOLIDAYS
1. Introduction
ORGANISATION encourages all employees to take their full entitlement of holiday and to spread their breaks throughout the year, with at least one period of two consecutive weeks. The aim is for all staff to enjoy a healthy work-life balance and to maintain energy and enthusiasm for their work commitments and responsibilities.
2. Scope
This policy and procedure applies to all full-time staff and pro rata for part-time staff.
3. Procedure
3.1. Booking holidays
Holiday should only be taken at times approved in advance by ORGANISATION. You must give at least two weeks' notice of proposed holiday dates except in the case of domestic or family emergencies and complete the Holiday Request and Approval Form. You are required to liaise with other staff in the same department or area of work and to co-operate in scheduling main holiday periods.
ORGANISATION will try to meet holiday requests however this may not be possible due to departmental workload, staffing problems or for other overriding operational reasons.
Changes to previously booked holiday affect other employees and ORGANISATION's management of absence. Therefore changes will only be approved in exceptional circumstances. Such requests should be made to your line manager as soon as the need is known.
3.2. Holiday entitlements
The holiday year runs from 1st January to 31st December. Entitlement in the first and last year of employment shall be pro-rata. You are entitled to 25 days paid holiday per year if you are employed full-time. Your entitlement will be pro rata if you work part-time.
You are not entitled to pay in lieu of holiday not taken, except on termination of employment. Any outstanding holiday leave at the end of the calendar year will be lost. Exceptionally and at the entire discretion of ORGANISATION, annual leave may be carried over to the following year.
