RETIREMENT POLICY
1. Retirement
The normal age of retirement from ORGANISATION employment is age 65 years for both men and women. The date of retirement will be on your birthday or the previous working day if your birthday falls at a weekend or Public Holiday.
2. Procedure
2.1. Retirement notification
At least six months and not more that twelve months before retirement, ORGANISATION will inform you in writing of the date of your retirement and your right to request to continue working.
2.2. Requests to continue working
Not more than six months and at least three months before the notified retirement, you may make a request in writing to continue working. A meeting will be held with you when consideration will be given to such factors as your sickness and disciplinary record, medical fitness, capability, availability of a job, the personal development needs of other employees, ORGANISATION skills needs, and the age structure of the workforce. The decision with reasons will be given to you in writing.
Within 5 working days of receiving a decision you may submit an appeal in writing against a refusal to continue working or a refusal to continue working for the period requested. You will be invited to an appeal meeting, usually within 10 working days, and the decision of that appeals meeting will be final.
A decision to continue employment will specify a new retirement date. The above notification and request procedures will also apply to your new and any subsequent retirement dates. If the period between the previously agreed and a new intended date of retirement is less than 6 months, ORGANISATION is not required to give you further written notice of retirement. When a new intended date of retirement has been agreed, you cannot change that date until the notification period is reached.
You have the right to be accompanied at any meeting dealing with a request for extension by a work colleague or a trades union official.
3. Early retirement
ORGANISATION reserves the right to invite applications for retirement before age 65 as an option in the case of redundancy, or technological, operational, or structural change.
4. Leaving ORGANISATION employment
Before leaving ORGANISATION employment, you must hand over all ORGANISATION property and equipment issued to them, including documents in hard copy or electronic form, keys, credit cards, and PC passwords. You must not copy or remove documents, records, or other data media with information from ORGANISATION about clients, partners and suppliers.
5. References
ORGANISATION will provide any new employer with a reference on their written request. This may be restricted to confirmation of your dates of employment, your job title and your final salary. Such requests should be sent to your line manager or the HR Officer.
